Mary Eileen McDonnell (born April 28th, 1952) is an American stage, film, and television actress. Her parts in Dances with Wolves, Stands With A Fist and Passion Fish saw her receive Academy Award nominations. McDonnell is most famous for her role as First Lady Marilyn Whitmore in Independence Day and President Laura Roslin on Battlestar Galactica. McDonnell was a character in Captain Sharon Raydor on seasons 5-7 of TNT's series The Closer. She also starred in Major Crimes, the spin-off show on TNT's network, as the Commander Sharon Raydor.
